Help Ban Plastic Water Bottles with “Bottle Free Badgers”

Hey everyone, sorry its been so long since I’ve written. I’ve been busy trying to save the world…well Im starting small. I’ve recently gotten an internship position at an environmental advocacy group where I have been and will be doing communication work. (Get ready for more videos 🙂 )

Right now though I need your help. The student organization that I am in on campus is trying to ban the sale of plastic water bottles of one Liter in size or less on campus. Plastic water bottles contribute to our landfills and take a long time to break down completely. They also contribute to the waste in the oceans where they kill wildlife and contribute to a massive amount of plastic trapped in the currents of the Pacific Ocean. With your own reusable water, typically around $10.00, by filling that water bottle up everyday during one week you have already made it worth while to have purchased that water bottle. Why keep donating money to companies who are taking “natural spring water” and selling it back to you when you can get your own water with a stylish water bottle for free essentially? For more information on that check out the documentary “Tapped”. My organization and I have started a petition and still need over 7,500 signatures. Please sign and pass on to family and friends. Thank you so much for your help!

Thank you for your help!!

Summer Internship

This summer I will be working with the Front Yard Garden project in Meadowood Wisconsin. We are trying to strengthen the community through gardening by providing an activity for residence, fresh produce since they live in a type of food desert, and an opportunity to learn how to garden. Tuesdays and Thursdays during the summer are gardening day! We need lots of volunteers, you can come only once if you want to, but the children in the area are adorable and the people are very welcoming you’re going to want to come back. We’re located at 5810 Russett Road in Meadowood. See you in the garden.

Raised beds to fill with fruits and veggies built by volunteers!

What Story does Your Backyard Tell?

Colorado River at the Hoover Dam on the border of Arizona and Nevada

I watched “Chasing Water” and found the different parts of the Colorado River so interesting. I love that Pete McBride framed it in a personal way by connecting it to his backyard and childhood on the ranch in Colorado. The areal views are gorgeous and really tell the story, I only wish that his friend on the river had a camera as well to show what he was seeing on his paddle. I love that at the end it gives you a site so that someday the water can reach the sea again. The concept that water in some places is rising faster than ever and in other places its drying up just as fast. The Western United States is a very dry place, we know this, anyone who has been to Arizona knows that the greenest part of the state are the golf courses. Figuring out how to use the river wisely and sustainably will be the challenge for the next generations.
